THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) IMPERIAL RUBY (C Zackey) shifted both ways from the crop from the 150m. b) Jockey W Kennedy the rider of SMOKING HOT dropped his right-side rein at approximately the 200m, which he only regained shortly before the finish line. c) Jockey J P v'd Merwe signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 55.4, in that as the rider of ELECTRIC SURGE, he failed to weigh out at the carded weight. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. d) When questioned as to why he dismounted BLACK THORN after this race, Jockey K de Melo advised the Stewards that he wanted to fit the official registered colour-holder's cap of this horse namely Hollywoood Syndicate for the photographic opportunity that followed. He added that this horse had raced without the registered coloured cap at the request of the commentator so that IMPERIAL RUBY and BLACK THORN could be correctly identified during the running of the race. This was done with the permission of the Stipendiary Board. Upon reviewing the patrol film of this incident, it was established that a licensed official was in attendance when Jockey K de Melo dismounted BLACK THORN and the Stipendiary Stewards took no further action in this regard. e) BLACK THORN (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (RVR). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) ELECTRIC SURGE Jockey J P v'd Merwe weighed out at 51.9kg, 1kg over the carded weight of 50.5kg (over-weight of 0.5kg declared 24.06.22/9h00). b) MYSTERY BOY raced with ear muffs (advised 30.06.22/14h55). c) IMPERIAL RUBY raced with a compression mask. d) PAYBACKTHEMONEY raced without blinkers and without a tongue tie (advised 02.07.22/7h49).
