THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BIG GUY (*K A Brewer), AFRICAN TORRENT (D De Gouveia) and FORD FAIRLANE (J Greyling) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) WARBONNET CREEK (IRE) (C Habib) over-raced in the early stages b) Jockey J Greyling (FORD FAIRLANE) did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. Thereafter, Jockey J Greyling reported that FORD FAIRLANE changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. Trainer F Bronkhorst was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of FORD FAIRLANE on return to stables. c) Apprentice K A Brewer was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking BIG GUY more than twelve times in the entire race. Apprentice K A Brewer signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 1,500.00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (13) and Apprentice K A Brewer's recent record with regards to this Rule and Guideline (4). d) RIVER ROMEO (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (RS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) BIG GUY raced equipped with blinkers (declared 3 July 2022 at 07H55). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) FORD FAIRLANE examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) WARBONNET CREEK (IRE) not striding out left hind.
