THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SUCH A CRACKER (R Khathi) was stubborn to load.
b) GRANDI ORECCHIE (*R Venniker) and SING FOR WINTER (C Habib) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) GRANDI ORECCHIE (*R Venniker) was hanging out from the 550m.
b) Approaching the 450m, GOLDEN GARDENS (T Godden) which was hanging in from the 550m, had to steady momentarily when awkwardly placed on the heels of LET IT SNOW (J P v'd Merwe) which rolled out marginally.
c) GLOBAL SONGSTRESS (K de Melo) was hanging out from the 350m.
d) TRIP TO NEBRASKA (J Gates) was hanging out in the concluding stages.
e) In view of the performance of SOVIET GIRL (G Wright) (53.15 lengths, 66/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
f) Jockey J Gates (TRIP TO NEBRASKA) appeared before the Board and was advised against the practice of using his crop when his mounts are out of contention.
g) Trainer N Kotzen signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 8.3.1, in that he failed to ensure that the owner's colours were available for the horse BRIGHT STAR. Accordingly, a penalty of a warning was imposed.
h) UMVOTI (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer M Trott acting on behalf of Trainer J S Snaith advised (HM).
