THE STARTER REPORTED: a) POSITIVE ATTITUDE (C Zackey) and ASCENDANCY (W Kennedy) were slow losing one length. b) SKYJET (D De Gouveia) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ASCENDANCY (W Kennedy), after being slow away, raced detached from the field and commenced to give ground to the field from the 300m, Thereafter, Jockey W Kennedy reported that he felt something amiss with ASCENDANCY in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. b) CARNELO (*P Mxoli) jumped a shadow at approximately the 900m. c) Jockey K de Melo (FIRE LORD) briefly got his crop entangled in his rein shortly before the finish line. d) Jockey P Strydom was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that he failed to ride the horse GIMME ROYALTY out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards. Jockey P Strydom signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 1,000.00 was imposed. e) EYJAFJALLAJOKULL (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
