THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BARAK (G Cheyne) was stubborn loading. b) FIND ME UNAFRAID (W Kennedy) jumped awkwardly, losing one length. c) MISS ORANGE (X Ndlovu) and SUPER HANDSOME (K Minnie) jumped slow, losing one length, THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, MASTER SUPREME (L Mxothwa) cast its right front shoe on the way to the start, which had to be replaced, causing a delay. b) Leaving the 300m ANSE LAZIO (AUS) (A Domeyer) and MASTER SUPREME (L Mxothwa) brushed. c) Leaving the 250m ANCIENT TIMES (JP van der Merwe) was carried out marginally by BARAK (G Cheyne), which shifted out away from the crop and was immediately straightened. d) In view of the performance of ANSE LAZIO (AUS) (A Domeyer) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey R Munger was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking FLOWER OF SAIGON more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey R Munger signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500.00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level, Jockey R Munger's recent record and the value of the race. f) BARAK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
