THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GREAT GUY (M van Rensburg) was injured in the stalls and withdrawn by the course veterinary surgeon.
b) RAISETHEREDLANTERN (JP van der Merwe) was stubborn loading.
c) TIMKAT (T Gould) was stubborn loading and thereafter slow into stride.
d) TICKET TO RIDE (*P Mxoli) kicked in the stalls.
e) A KINGS RETURN (W Kennedy) was nervous in the stalls and slow into stride.
f) MADAME PATRICE (M Mjoka) jumped slow, losing one length.
g) Jockey W Kennedy was charged with a contravention of Rule 61.5.17 in that he committed a misdemeanour/misbehaved at the start whilst riding A KINGS RETURN. Jockey W Kennedy signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R500.00. This fine was confirmed by the Stewards.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, RED BISHOP (S Devoy) cast its right front shoe on the way to the start, which had to be replaced, causing a delay.
b) Jockeys W Kennedy and T Gould reported that they felt something amiss with A KINGS RETURN and TIMKAT respectively. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine these geldings.
c) At the 250m TICKET TO RIDE (*P Mxoli) and PICTURE THE MOMENT (K Minnie) had to steady when awkwardly placed between THE CARPENTER (D Bogaleboile) and RED BISHOP (S Devoy) which shifted out slightly. Jockey S Devoy appeared before the Board and was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding TIMKAT (T Gould), Trainer WGC Miller will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled before his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding RAISETHEREDLANTERN (JP van der Merwe), Trainer GD Smith will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled before his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
f) RAISETHEREDLANTERN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised. (MN)
