THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SUPREME QUEST (M V'Rensburg) lost two lengths. b) ALESIAN CHIEF (M Yeni) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) VAL D'ORCIA (K de Melo) took an awkward stride at the 800m and thereafter Jockey K de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding and as a result eased his mount out of the race. As a consequence, SMORGASBORD (C Habib) and SUPREME QUEST (M V'Rensburg) had to take evasive action to avoid running onto the heels of VAL D'ORCIA (K de Melo). b) Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse CAPTAIN'S RANSOM more than 12 times in the entire race. When determining the penalty, the Stewards considered that this was Jockey R Fourie's 12th transgression of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline M) since 1 August 2021 and his 6th offence inside the preceding 60 day period. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R20 000 and a suspension from riding in races for a period of 7 days were imposed. (Suspension Dates : 08.08.22 - 14.08.22, bdi) c) CAPTAIN'S RANSOM (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J S Snaith advised (RVR). d) WILLIAM ROBERTSON (S Khumalo), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Spies advised (RVR). e) BIG BURN (W Kennedy), placed third, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P A Peter advised (ML).
