THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PRINCESS OF FIRE (R Munger) was stubborn loading and slow into stride. b) JASPERO (L Mxothwa) and MIKE THE PILOT (*MH Zuma) were nervous in the stalls. c) BRINGBACKTHEMONEY (Y Ramzan) and WITH OUR BLESSING (*KA Brewer) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) PRINCESS OF FIRE (R Munger) raced wide throughout. b) WAR MAN (F Herholdt) was hanging in from the 300m. c) Approaching the 100m CANE LIME 'N SODA (JP van der Merwe) shifted in away from the crop and took an awkward stride. In view of this report, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey E Webber was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking FLINDERS RANGE more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey E Webber signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey E Webber used his crop and the number of strikes (17) over the permissible level. e) ABLUEAZURE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
