THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MI MI APPLE PIE (M van Rensburg) and POLLY FLINDERS (*K Strydom) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start MI MI APPLE PIE (M van Rensburg) and GIRL SCOUT (*RA Venniker) bumped. b) At the 400m SUGARBERRY (S Khumalo) rolled in and had to be steadied away from the heels of MI MI APPLE PIE (M van Rensburg). c) Leaving the 400m JAPAN APPROVAL (*KA Brewer) had to be steadied off he heels of GIRL SCOUT (*RA Venniker), which was hanging in, shifted in and was immediately straightened. d) Jockey W Agrella (MON TRESOR) briefly dropped his left-side rein at the 100m. e) Jockey Y Ramzan (VICKEYNEKI) briefly dropped his left-side rein leaving the 50m. f) Jockey Y Ramzan was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking VICKEYNEKI more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Y Ramzan signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey Y Ramzan used his crop and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. g) SUGARBERRY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
