SPRING BURST lost one length. The tongue tie on BOLD BEAUTY was re-fitted prior to the start. In the straight, MARZIPAN PATH was hanging in proving difficult to assist. Shortly after the start, SPRING BURST and SAMBA WITH SUZIE raced fiercely when awkwardly placed on the inside of SHE'S A CRUSADE, which rolled in marginally. Jockey Khumalo appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his ride on SAMBA WITH SUZIE. In particular, his attention was drawn to the non-vigorous nature of his ride in the straight. In this regard, Jockey Khumalo explained to the Board that, this filly had to ease when awkwardly placed shortly after the start, this resulted in her stride being broken and her having to be positioned three deep in running. It was Jockey Khumalo's opinion that these exertions had impacted this filly's performance as, when he asked SAMBA WITH SUZIE for an effort, she had nothing to come in the straight. Jockey Khumalo was further of the opinion that this filly may not have enjoyed racing under the lights and on the poly track. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey Khumalo, which was corroborated by the patrol films of the race. Notwithstanding this explanation, in view of the performance, the Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine SAMBA WITH SUZIE. COYOTE GIRL and GINGER BISCUIT were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. SPRING BURST raced with alumites. COYOTE GIRL raced in club colours. MARZIPAN PATH - blowing post race. SAMBA WITH SUZIE - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: BLING A DING DING - pulled muscle.
