THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 300m, THE BRIEF (G Lerena) was carried out marginally by IMMEASURABLE (C Habib) which shifted out away from the crop and was immediately straightened. b) Jockey K Matsunyane the rider of BANHA BRIDGE briefly dropped his right-side rein shortly before the finish line. c) Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking THE BRIEF more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R2500 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times that Jockey Lerena used his crop (14) as well as his recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline (4) as well as his finishing position, (1st). d) THE BRIEF (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
