THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking DUKE OF SUSSEX more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R2500 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times that Jockey Lerena used his crop (13) as well as his recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline (5). Jockey Lerena was advised that a 6th contravention of this Rule and Guideline before the 15th of August 2022, inside the preceding 60-day period, would result in a more severe penalty and could include him being suspended. b) VANDERBILT (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
