THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) Fair start.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) A TIME TO REMEMBER (R Khathi) over-raced in the early and middle stages.
b) PEDRO (K de Melo) was baulked for a clear run for a number of strides approaching the 150m.
c) QUEST FOR THE BEST (J P v'd Merwe) raced wide throughout.
d) In the concluding stages, CALLMEMRGREENLIGHT (S Veale) was straightened after having turned its head towards LAKE COMO (C Habib) which rolled in.
e) Shortly before the finish, PINEVIEW (J Gates) was switched out to avoid running onto the heels of HIGHER PURPOSE (K Matsunyane) which was hanging in.
f) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse RICCARDO more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey A Arries struck the horse RICCARDO, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed.
g) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning PROTEA PRIDE, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer C M Bestel was advised. (Suspension Dates : 15.08.22 - 13.10.22, bdi)
h) THE BAYOU (*D Geerthsen), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P V Lafferty advised (DZ).
