THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SACRED LOTUS (Y Ramzan) kicked the back gates of the starting stalls. b) GILLIAN ANNE (L Mxothwa) jumped inwards. c) AFTERNOON TEA (JP van der Merwe) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start SAVANNAH WINTER (R Fourie) became unbalanced when bumped by GILLIAN ANNE (L Mxothwa), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) Shortly before the finish AFTERNOON TEA (JP van der Merwe) was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed between SACRED LOTUS (Y Ramzan) and GILLIAN ANNE (L Mxothwa), which shifted in away from the crop. c) Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking RED BERRY more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt and was fined R4000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account his recent record, the distance over and manner in which Jockey S Khumalo used his crop, the number of strikes (13) and RED BERRY's finishing position. d) RED BERRY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana, acting on behalf of Trainer AC Greeff, was advised.
