GRAVITATION was stubborn loading. VICTORY MARCH was slow into stride. EXALTATION was nervous in the stalls. LARRY JACK was slow away and lost 1 length. Shortly before the finish, Jockey Fortune, the rider of VICTORY MARCH, lost his right side rein, which he only regained after the line. Jockey Fortune reported that the saddle of VICTORY MARCH slipped back in the running. This was confirmed by the Course Veterinery Surgeon. Jockey Fortune signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, read with Guideline M on the use of the crop, in that he used his crop more than 12 times in the entire race whilst riding the horse VICTORY MARCH. In deciding what penalty to impose, the Board considered the number of times Jockey Fortune stuck VICTORY MARCH. Accordingly, a fine was imposed. Jockey Yeni, the rider of TWICE A POET, Jockey Gould, the rider of COLONEL BOGEY, and Apprentice Mphanya, the rider of SHINE LIKE A STAR, reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in the running. VALENTINE'S GIRL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: SHINE LIKE A STAR - not striding out left front. COLONEL BOGEY - not striding out in front. TWICE A POET - nothing obvious detected.
