THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RAISETHEREDLANTERN (JP van der Merwe) was stubborn loading and slow into stride. b) BORN A STAR (*P Mxoli) was slow into stride. c) USHUAIA (R Fourie) jumped inwards. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SILVER CELEBRITY (E Webber) was continually held up for a clear run between the 800m and the 200m. b) In view of the performance of SAIPAN (F Herholdt), which was hanging in in the straight and proved difficult to assist from the 150m, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey C Habib (GREAT MELODY) dropped his crop at the 250m. d) In view of the performance of RAISETHEREDLANTERN (JP van der Merwe), which was hanging out from the 200m and failed to respond to Jockey JP van der Merwe's urgings, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey J Mphanya reported that he felt something amiss with KNAVE OF DIAMONDS. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. f) Jockey K Minnie reported that he felt something amiss with IRISH SEA. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. g) USHUAIA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
