THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BUCHEPARUS (T Godden) and FLAMING DRUM (S Veale) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) BUSCHEPARUS (T Godden) failed to muster speed on debut and raced detached from the field throughout. b) ARIVIDICIO (K Matsunyane) was hanging out from the 150m. c) Jockey M Mjoka reported that he felt something amiss with DECLARATION OF WAR at the 300m and as a result eased this gelding out the race. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning DECLARATION OF WAR, this gelding is permanently suspended in terms of Rule 93.2.6. Trainer K Naidoo advised (MB). e) When questioned regarding his ride on LAZY GUY, in reference particular to the degree of vigour and determination shown by him near to and leaving the 300m, Jockey C Habib explained that when he rode this gelding on the 14 August 2022 at Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse, it failed to finish its race off strongly over the final 100m. In today's run, he elected to keep LAZY GUY held up for as long as possible in order to ensure that the gelding finished its race off strongly. The Board noted this explanation and advised Jockey C Habib that should there be a change in riding tactics, this should be brought to the Board's attention prior to the race. Further, the future performances of LAZY GUY will be monitored. f) ARIVIDICIO (K Matsunyane), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer T Brown acting on behalf of Trainer M F de Kock advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) BUCHEPARUS is a gelding. Gelded 30.09.21. (Advised 02.09.22) THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) QUANDARY : Moderate post-race distress. b) DECLARATION OF WAR : Lame left front. Confirmed permanent suspension.
