THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DUCHESS OF PALOMA (JP van der Merwe) jumped inwards and made contact with LARKING ABOUT (*B Plaatjies). b) GIVEN TO FLY (C Orffer) jumped slow, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 250m LARKING ABOUT (*B Plaatjies) had to be steadied briefly and made contact with the hindquarters of DUCHESS OF PALOMA (JP van der Merwe) when tightened for galloping room between DUCHESS OF PALOMA (JP van der Merwe) and WINTER GAMBLE (A Fortune), which was hanging out and shifted out. b) Jockey A Fortune was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline 3; Appendix E) in that he mis-used his crop by striking WINTER GAMBLE forward of the saddle at the 250m. Jockey A Fortune signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00. c) UKUDUMA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised.
