Stipes Report
THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO THE DELAY IN THE PREVIOUS RACE AS WELL AS TCHAIKOVSKY (S KHUMALO) HAVING TO BE RESADDLED AT THE START. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VIBE SA (A Fortune) and BIG BOY BRUCE (M Yeni) stumbled leaving the stalls. b) QHAWE LAMI (C Habib) and PURPLENINJATURTLE (Wes Marwing) were slow losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, the field headed to the outside of the track, which led to BLACK EGRET (P Strydom), CIAN THE CONQUEROR (M van Rensburg), VIBE SA (A Fortune), OPEN HIGHWAY (*G Samo-Burthia), TCHAIKOVSKY (S Khumalo) and BLIZZARD SNOW (R Fourie) racing tight and being baulked for a clear run over the final stages of the race. As a consequence of this, at the 50m, ROAMING SPIRIT (K Matsunyane) improved into an available run on the outside of LONGSWORD (C Zackey) and this led to ROCK OF BISMANTOVA (C Maujean) racing tight and in close proximity to the outside running rail. The Stewards determined that the number of horses being baulked for clear running, and ROCK OF BISMANTOVA (C Maujean) being interfered with in the concluding stages was as a consequence of the entire field using the limited channel the width of approximately 12 horses on the outside of the racecourse instead of the entire width of the racecourse. The Stewards will monitor this practice and take action if they deem it necessary to do so in future. b) Jockey Wes Marwing reported that PURPLENINJATURTLE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey J Gates was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he, as the rider of VEGAS HI RISE, misused his crop by striking this gelding more than twelve times (15) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey J Gates signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R7500 was imposed. d) After this race the Stewards had reason to interview Jockey A Fortune (VIBE SA) in relation to him wearing breeches which were in contravention of the Rules. He was advised that, due to the circumstances he shared with the Stewards, they would take no action, however, he was instructed to refrain from using these breeches with immediate effect and in future engagements e) ROAMING SPIRIT (K Matsunyane), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) PURPLENINJATURTLE coughing post race. b) TCHAIKOVSKY coughing post race. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
