Stipes Report
THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO COUNT YOUR CHANCES (S KHUMALO) BEING SUBJECT TO A LATE VETERINARY EXAMINATION AT THE START. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STROKE OF MERCY (*K J Lihaba) was slow losing five lengths. The starting stall certificate for this horse has been withdrawn. Trainer C J Lensley was advised (GT). b) COUNT YOUR CHANCES (S Khumalo) and SI VELOCE (*G Dookhit) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 600m, STROKE OF MERCY (*K J Lihaba) became unbalanced after taking an awkward stride. Thereafter, Apprentice K J Lihaba reported that this horse did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) In view of the performance of WRITTEN IN STONE (J R Syster), (distance 16,35 lengths, betting 50/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with COUNT YOUR CHANCES in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. d) In view of the Starter's report with regard to STROKE OF MERCY, this horse's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as he proves tractable loading and jumping with a companion. Suspension dates: 16 May 2025 to 22 May 2025. STROKE OF MERCY may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer C J Lensley was advised. e) SAIL THE SKY (M van Rensburg), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C I Jonker advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) KOTINOS was ridden by Jockey D Schwarz (declared 13 May 2025 at 08H22). Stipes permission with the mutual consent of all parties involved. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) STROKE OF MERCY raced equipped with cheek pieces (declared 9 May 2025 at 10H21). b) PERINI PALACE raced equipped with blinkers (declared 12 May 2025 at 10H27). c) SI VELOCE raced without blinkers and a tongue tie (declared 12 May 2025 at 10H28). d) SAHARA DAWN raced with a tongue tie on (declared 14 May 2025 at 09H55).
