THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PORTFIRE dislodged Jockey D Schwarz without incident while proceeding to the start, was taken in hand and subsequently led, riderless, to the start. b) GENTEEL dislodged Jockey C Little without incident while proceeding to the start, was taken in hand and remounted at the 100m. c) FIZZLY BUBBLY (*J Botes) and INCENDIARY (L Mxothwa) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey Y Ramzan reported that he felt something amiss with TIBBOTT BOURKE, which failed to muster speed in the early stages and raced detached from the field. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Assistant Trainer FJ Jacobs was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. b) FIZZLY BUBBLY (*J Botes) was hanging out between the 400m and the 200m. c) CLIFFIE CLAVIN (C Maujean) was hanging in from the 300m. d) Jockey D Schwarz reported that he felt something amiss with PORTFIRE. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) GOLDEN GREY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
