THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RICCARDO (R A Venniker) lost 1 length. b) LEXICAN POINT (C Habib) lost 2 lengths. c) RODRIGUEZ (*M Mbuto) lost 3 lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) CHILL IN THE AIR (R A Venniker) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) Approaching the 1400m FRENCH TRIP (S Khumalo) was eased in anticipation of being awkwardly placed on the heels of TOMMY SHELBY (J Gates) which rolled in towards FRENCH TRIP (S Khumalo). c) Approaching the 800m MY BOY LOLLIPOP (C Zackey) which rolled out was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed on the inside of the heels of TOMMY SHELBY (J Gates). d) BASIE RAAKVAT (N Patel) shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. e) Jockey R A Venniker reported that she felt something amiss with CHILL IN THE AIR in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) In view of the performance of FRENCH TRIP (S Khumalo) (9.90 lengths, 9/2 in the betting), which was not persevered with in the concluding stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. The Stipendiary Board has exercised the provisions of Rule 49.7, and this gelding is suspended pending a Veterinary Certificate prior to its next racing engagement. g) TOMMY SHELBY (J Gates), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
