Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GREEN PLANET (G van Niekerk) was re-saddled at the start. b) SOOTY (D Ashby) and LATE DECEMBER (C Orffer) jumped slow, losing one length c) FOLLOW YOUR HEART (M Winnaar) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BLACK EAGLE recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer VH Marshall was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) After being slow to begin, FOLLOW YOUR HEART (M Winnaar) commenced to over race from the 800m and, as a consequence, raced wide on the turn and into the straight. Jockey M Winnaar reported that during this incident, the saddle on this gelding slipped sideways, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. When questioned regarding the racing manners of this gelding, Trainer C Bass told the Stewards that this gelding, which was having its first run round the Durbanville turn after a one hundred and five day rest, can be difficult to restrain. She has undertaken to continue to make efforts to ensure that this gelding's racing manners improve. Her explanation was noted and the Stewards will monitor FOLLOW YOUR HEART's future races. c) BLACK EAGLE (R Fourie) was hanging out from the 400m. d) At the 250m GREEN PLANET (G van Niekerk), which initially shifted out, was steadied briefly when awkwardly placed on the inside of STREET OUTLAW (*B Plaatjies), which shifted in and was immediately straightened. e) Jockey G Wright reported that NOON DAY GUN changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) BLACK EAGLE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised.
