Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a) COUNTRY TIME (*B Plaatjies) jumped awkwardly, losing one length and thereafter, was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a)	FORT RED (R Fourie) raced wide on the turn and into the straight.
b)	The saddle on COUNTRY TIME slipped back in running and, as a consequence, Apprentice B Plaatjies was unable to assist this mare between the 50m and the finish.
c)	When questioned regarding his riding of CHAMPAGNE MAC, Jockey C Little told the Stewards that his instructions were to ensure that this gelding was in a position to sustain a strong finish as in its previous races it had raced handy and had weakened in the closing stages. He told the Stewards that he had managed to enter the home straight in a mid-field position and that he was mindful that he could not ask the gelding for an effort too early, bearing in mind these previous tactics that were adopted in his previous races were unsuccessful. Mr Little was advised that his riding had come under notice and that he had not improved into an available run between OVER THE ATLANTIC (G Wright) and MELA STRENGTH (L Mxothwa) at the 300m and following that, despite that he had been crowded on the inside of MRS SHACKLETON (K Steyn), in the opinion of the Stewards, he still had sufficient room to persevere with his riding. The Stewards advised Mr Little that his riding had fallen below what is required and that should he change tactics which could lead to query from the Stewards, he should advise them accordingly, in advance of the race.
d)	PUSHING LIMITS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised. (SC)
