Stipes Report
Light rain fell during the running of this race. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) A fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (DA) : a) Leaving starting stalls Jockey S Hlengwa (KUMEMORI) lost the footing to his right-side stirrup iron which he regained shortly thereafter. b) RAFA'S BOY (S Khumalo) hung in from the 350m. c) SMORGASBORD (*B Marx-Jacobson) which had come to the end of its run was steadied momentarily in anticipation of being awkwardly placed on the heels of MVELELO (S Veale) which hung in and shifted in from the 300m. Jockey S Veale appeared before the Board and was advised to be more mindful of the proximity of other riders when shifting ground in races in future. d) At the 100m PREEMPTIVE STRIKE (M Yeni) was inconvenienced when tightened between IBUTHO (A Mgudlwa) and KUMEMORI (S Hlengwa) which rolled in and was immediately corrected. e) In view of the performance of VIVA SPIRIT (C Murray) (4.90 lengths, 17/2 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) MVELELO (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
