Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FLASH LIGHTNING (*W Fourie) and ARIVIDICIO (X Ndlovu) jumped slow, losing one length. b) CITY OF PORT LOUIS (M van Rensburg) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (15h47) b) THREE CHEERS (*G Dookhit) cast its left front shoe while proceeding to the start. The Farrier was unable to replace this shoe and with the consent of Trainer Z Oosthuizen, the right front shoe was removed and THREE CHEERS raced unshod in front. c) Apprentice W Fourie (FLASH LIGHTNING) rode a satisfactory qualifying ride. d) CANFORD QUEEN (C Maujean) over raced in the early and middle stages. e) In a tightly bunched field HOLLANDIA BAKKERIJ (C Little) and GLOBAL DRUMBEAT (M Yeni) came together and brushed on a number of occasions at approximately the 1000m. f) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that CITY OF PORT LOUIS coughed in running and eased this gelding out of the race at the 350m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. g) At approximately the 100m, FLASH LIGHTNING (*W Fourie) was carried outwards slightly by BLACKBERRY BREEZE (C Zackey), which was hanging outwards from the 200m. h) Jockey C Maujean reported that he felt something amiss with CANFORD QUEEN. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. i) In view of the performance of ROTOTO (S Khumalo) (Betting 28/10; Distance 5.80 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer JP Nel was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. j) FLASH LIGHTNING, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
