Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	JULIET TANGO (*J Solomons) was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a)	Shortly after the start, WESTERN FORT (N Qaule) was encouraged forward to take up the leading position. Thereafter BAYMAX (M Ntuli) was hard ridden to pass WESTERN FORT to take up a substantial lead. Both these horses tired badly in the straight and commenced to give ground to the field from the 400m.
Jockey Qaule (WESTERN FORT) and Jockey M Ntuli (BAYMAX) were questioned regarding their riding instructions. Jockey Qaule explained that he was instructed to race prominently throughout and Jockey Ntuli advised that he was instructed to race to the front.
Assistant Trainer A Peter confirmed these riding instructions to Jockeys Qaule and Ntuli, he was however advised by the Board that adequate riding instructions must be given to the rider of any horse under his care, and his attention was drawn to Rule 62.8.
b)	At the 100m, NAVAL GUARD (W Kennedy) was carried out marginally by PERFECT WITNESS which hung out from the 200m and was straightened.
c)	PUERTO MANZANO (ARG) (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (LN).
