THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BEGONIA (*P Mxoli) and TUFAAN (JP van der Merwe) bumped shortly after the start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 700m EMILY'S SPIRIT (G Cheyne) rolled out and brushed TUFAAN (JP van der Merwe). b) GLITTERFOX (*K Strydom) shifted out away from the crop at the 250m and had to be straightened. c) Apprentice P Mxoli was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking BEGONIA more than 12 times in the entire race. Apprentice P Mxoli signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Apprentice P Mxoli's recent record (4) and that this is a two-year-old. d) CARBONADO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
