THE STARTER REPORTED:  
a)	Fair start. 
  
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a)	In the concluding stages, JOHNNY'S HOPE (K Matsunyane) which was hanging in and RAVENS SWORD (C Habib) which shifted out away from the crop, came together and brushed. 
A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by the Rider (K Matsunyane) of the second placed horse (JOHNNY'S HOPE) against the winner, RAVENS SWORD (C Habib) on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered the distance between 2nd and 1st at the finish was 0.40 and the dual movements of the horses involved. Consequently, the Board could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, JOHNNY'S HOPE would have finished ahead of RAVENS SWORD, therefore it overruled the objection and allowed the Judge's result to stand. Jockey K Matsunyane deposit was refunded.  
b)	Jockey K Matsunyane signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse JOHNNY'S HOPE more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey K Matsunyane struck the horse JOHNNY'S HOPE, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (3) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2000 was imposed.
c)	RAVEN'S SWORD (C Habib), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer W Whitehead advised (HM).
