Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) AFRICAN RAIN (M Winnaar) and TEMPTING FATE (S Veale) made contact leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey A Domeyer, after assessment by the course medical officer, was cleared fit to fulfil the remainder of his riding engagements. b) At the 400m POMP AND POWER (G Wright) was brushed on both sides when racing tight between TRIP OF FORTUNE (A Domeyer) and BEREAVE (JP van der Merwe). c) At the 250m RIO QUERARI (R Fourie) was held up for a clear run when close to the heels of AFRICAN RAIN (M Winnaar), was directed outward and then brushed SPEED MACHINE (*RA Venniker), which rolled in. d) UNIVERSAL (G van Niekerk) was unable to secure clear running between the 200m and the finish. e) In view of the performance of RIO QUERARI (R Fourie) (betting 8/1 ; distance 8.10) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) SURJAY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
