Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) AENEAS (G Wright) and BEERENBERG (G van Niekerk) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 800m in a tightly bunched field KEEP IT SECRET (*RA Venniker) had to be steadied away from the heels of LORD WILLIAM (J Jacobs) which was initially carried out by WYAG (JP van der Merwe) and then shifted in. Jockey J Jacobs appeared before the Board and was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. b) At the 300m KEEP IT SECRET (*RA Venniker) had to be steadied when tightened for galloping room between RUNAWAY SONG (R Fourie) and WYAG (JP van der Merwe) which shifted out away from the heels of TOUT A FAIT (G Lerena) and was immediately straightened. c) Jockey S Veale reported that SILVER TYCOON made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding d) RUNAWAY SONG, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
