THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 200m, SAGE KING (K Matsunyane) eased and clipped the heels of TSAR BOMBA (G Lerena), which commenced to hang out from the 400m and thereafter shifted out. b) An Objection was lodged by Jockey K Matsunyane on behalf of the fourth-placed horse, SAGE KING, against the third-placed horse, TSAR BOMBA (G Lerena), on the grounds of interference at approximately the 200m. The Board, after giving regard to the evidence presented by the relevant parties, the distance between the horses at the finish line (1,25 lengths) and the fact that SAGE KING was not making up ground on TSAR BOMBA prior to or after the incident, was of the opinion that but for this incident, SAGE KING would not have finished ahead of TSAR BOMBA, overruled the Objection, and allowed the Judges result to stand. The Board was also of the opinion that this objection was unwarranted and declared Jockey K Matsunyane's deposit forfeit. c) Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of TSAR BOMBA, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to SAGE KING (K Matsunyane) when he shifted out at approximately the 200m. Jockey G Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days. Suspension dates: 7 December 2022 to 13 December 2022. d) STAR COIN (J P van der Merwe), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A G Laird advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) LETSDOIT raced without cheekpieces (declared 6 December 2022 at 06H44). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) TSAR BOMBA cut into left hind lateral heel bulb. SCRATCHED: a) FAST LOVE coughing (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
