Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	BEERENBERG (G van Niekerk) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride.
b)	CAPTAIN BOMBSHELL, which was restless in the stalls, jumped awkwardly, unbalanced Jockey M Yeni and thereafter was slow into stride.
c)	ROYAL AUSSIE (R Fourie) was restless in the stalls. 

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race.
b)	TOUGH TERRAIN (C Habib) and MARVEL WILLIAM (O Noach) bumped shortly after the start.
c)	Approaching the 200m DOUBLE CHARGE (A Domeyer) had to be steadied away from the heels of BLIZZARD (K Matsunyane), which was hanging out and shifted out. Thereafter, BLIZZARD (K Matsunyane) after being straightened, continued to shift out and made contact with the hindquarters of BEERENBERG (G van Niekerk) at the 150m, resulting in BEERENBERG (G van Niekerk) becoming momentarily unbalanced. Jockey K Matsunyane appeared before the Board and was advised that while the Stewards accepted that BLIZZARD had been hanging out, he was expected to make more of an effort to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances.
d)	Leaving the 50m BARNEY MCGREW (D Ashby) had to be steadied away from the heels of LET IT BURN (G Behr), which rolled out. Thereafter, Jockey D Ashby reported that BARNEY MCGREW did not stride out freely in running and he did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e)	GIACOMO PUCCINI (C Orffer) was hanging out throughout.
f)	In view of the performance of SOLAR POWER (L Mxothwa) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
g)	Jockey R Fourie reported that ROYAL AUSSIE made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
h)	CAPTAIN BOMBSHELL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P Muscutt was advised. (DD)
