THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ROYAL WATCH (JP van der Merwe) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) THE FUTURIST (L Mxothwa) over raced in the early stages and raced clear of the field until approaching the 400m. b) Jockey C Orffer was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking DUBAI LIGHTS more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey C Orffer signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey C Orffer used his crop and the number of strikes (14). c) ROYAL WATCH, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith, was advised.
