THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FREE MOVEMENT (M Yeni) refused to load. The starting stall certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn. Trainer R R Sage was advised (PHvdW). b) QUIXOTE (K de Melo), EXHALE (R Simons) and INCREDIBLE INDIA (Wes Marwing) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, PHANTOMOFTHEFOREST (S Khumalo) was brushed in by QUIXOTE (K de Melo), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) Approaching the 100m, QUIXOTE (K de Melo) and GIMME ROYALTY (D Schwarz) came together and brushed. c) In view of the Starter's report with regard to FREE MOVEMENT, this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as he proves tractable loading with a companion. Suspension dates: 27 January 2023 to 2 February 2023. FREE MOVEMENT may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer R R Sage was advised. d) GIMME ROYALTY (D Schwarz), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S M Naidoo advised (MduP). When questioned regarding the improved performance of GIMME ROYALTY, Trainer S M Naidoo explained to the Board that, in his opinion, the drop in trip and the addition of blinker pacifiers had accounted for this gelding's improved run. He has undertaken, where possible, to race the gelding over similar distances and similarly equipped in future. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) EXHALE was ridden by Jockey R Simons (declared 26 January 2023 at 08H30). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) PHANTOMOFTHEFOREST raced without pacifiers (declared 24 January 2023 at 12H07). b) GIMME ROYALTY raced equipped with blinker pacifiers (declared 26 January 2023 at 07H54).
