THE STARTER REPORTED: a) JUSTFORTHEEPENNY (M Yeni) lost three lengths. Trainer N Kotzen was advised re-school this gelding (SL) b) GIAMBATTISTA (D Schwarz) was stubborn to load. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) BUGSY MALONE (*M Katjedi) raced detached from the field in the early and middle stages. b) ALLAROUNDTHEWORLD (GB) (A Mgudlwa) was hanging out and raced wide around the turn. Thereafter this gelding was hanging in, in the concluding stages. c) Jockey S Moodley reported that JETAVANA did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) In view of the performance of GIAMBATTISTA (D Schwarz) (15.50 lengths, betting 6/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer W Whitehead was requested to report back on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. e) CRESTED EAGLE (*R Venniker), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
