Race 8: NEXT FAIRVIEW RACEMEETING FRIDAY 10 FEBRUARY MR 72 HANDICAP (Open)

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	JACK AND GINGER (J Mphanya) was stubborn loading.
b)	MASTER VISION (T Gould) was nervous in the stalls and thereafter was slow into stride.
c)	DIRTY MARTINI (JP van der Merwe) and QUASIMODO (S Khathi) were slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 
 
a)	EUPHORIC dislodged Jockey D de Gouveia without incident while leaving the parade ring, cantered back to the saddling area, was taken in hand, examined by the course veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race. 
b)	On arriving at the start Jockey D de Gouveia expressed concern regarding EUPHORIC's action during the canter past. The gelding was examined by the course veterinary surgeon who declared EUPHORIC suitable to race. However, Jockey D de Gouveia disagreed with the veterinary surgeon's decision and elected not to ride EUPHORIC. Due to time constraints and the delay that would have been caused by sending a replacement rider to the start, EUPHORIC was withdrawn by the Stewards.  A veterinary certificate is required before this gelding is declared to race again. Trainer JVA Strydom to be advised. 


c)	ESSOS (*P Mxoli) proved difficult to settle in the early stages.
d)	Leaving the 900m DIRTY MARTINI (JP van der Merwe) brushed the inside running rail.
e)	At the 400m BOLD STRIKE (S Khumalo) was steadied when close to the heels of IDEAL TIME (K Steyn). Thereafter, BOLD STRIKE (S Khumalo) was directed inwards and into clear running.
f)	Jockey Y Ramzan (CANE LIME 'N SODA) briefly dropped his left-side rein leaving the 100m.
g)	Jockeys D Ashby and JP van der Merwe reported that TOZZETTI and DIRTY MARTINI respectively did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine these geldings.
h)	In view of the report from the starter regarding JACK AND GINGER (J Mphanya), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 04/02/2023 to 10/02/2023 inclusive). JACK AND GINGER may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
i)	HEATHCLIFF, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM)
