Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) YOU KNOW WHO (K Steyn), SAFARI BLUE (S Khumalo) and ASSURED (R Munger) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) On arriving at the start, the Jockeys raised concern about an area on the racecourse at approximately the 1400m. The Course Manager inspected this area and attended to this area of concern, causing a delay. b) Approaching the 900m Jockey C Maujean's (MHLABENI) left-side stirrup leather broke, resulting in Jockey Maujean being dislodged. ATKINSON GRIMSHAW (JP van der Merwe), LONDON ROADS (R Simons) and YOU KNOW WHO (K Steyn) had to take evasive action to avoid the fallen rider and, as a consequence, raced very wide on the latter part of the bend and into the straight. Jockey Maujean was attended to on course by the paramedics, which precluded him from weighing-in. The Stewards were satisfied that in terms of Rule 66.2 MHLABENI (C Maujean) would have carried the correct weight. Jockey Maujean's equipment was examined by the Stewards and found to be in a satisfactory condition. c) Trainer M Turner was charged with a contravention of Rule 39.7.5 in that she failed to vaccinate LONDON ROADS against Equine Influenza in accordance with the program of vaccinations as published from time to time in the Racing Calendar. Trainer Turner signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000.00. d) SAFARI BLUE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
