Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DONQUERARI (K de Melo) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Jockey S Moodley (SABATINI) reported that his saddle slipped sideways marginally shortly after the start. This was confirmed by the Stewards. b) At the 800m, PRINCESS TEA (J Gates) had to be steadied off the heels of SABATINI (S Moodley) which rolled in. Jockey S Moodley appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of other runners when shifting ground in races in future. c) Jockey K de Melo (DONQUERARI) appeared before the Board with regard to his riding in this Race. Mr de Melo explained that after having lost a length at the start he elected to obtain cover behind a horse that was unable to maintain the fast pace of this Race in the middle stages. Mr de Melo further explained he was instructed to ride DONQUERARI patiently as this horse tends not to sustain a finish in a race, which is this gelding's normal racing style. He added that when he asked DONQUERARI for a finishing effort this gelding began to hang in and did not respond immediately. The Board noted Mr de Melo's explanation. d) RENAISSANCE MAN (*R A Venniker), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M L Roberts advised (HM). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Apprentice S Hlengwa (WILL O ME) only claimed 0.5kg of his 1kg carded allowance and weighed out at 51.2kg. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) WILL O ME : Nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS : DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: a) None
