THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	OPERA SWING (J Gates) jumped slow, losing one length.
b)	IRISH RAIN (M Thackeray) and ALADO'S PRIDE (*KA Brewer) were slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	Shortly after the start COFFEE BREAK (D Ashby) was buffeted between USHUAIA (T Gould) and KAPUZINER (L Mxothwa), which was carried outwards by SPIRIT OF SILVANO (S Khumalo), which shifted out abruptly leaving the stalls.
b)	ATKINSON GRIMSHAW (JP van der Merwe), which raced wide without cover in the early stages, was allowed to race to the front of the field from the 1400m.
c)	Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with SPIRIT OF SILVANO, which came under pressure from the 600m and did not respond to Jockey Khumalo's urgings. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d)	Jockey S Khathi reported that FIRE LORD did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e)	ALINGALONGA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM)
