Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a)	DEVILISH DANCER (C Habib) jumped outwards leaving the stalls.
b)	GILDA GRAY (J P van der Merwe) was slow losing one length.
c)	HOTCHIWITCHI (J Penny) was slow into stride.	

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a)	Jockey	G Lerena, the rider of LUTHULI, accidentally dropped his crop at the 200m.	
b)	In view of the performance of EAGLE ALLEY (*S Sosibo), (distance 9,25 lengths, betting 6/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.	
c)	When questioned regarding his riding of NAPOLEON, with particular reference as to why this gelding was held up for so long, Jockey P Strydom explained to Board that it was his instructions to get cover and sit on this gelding for as long as possible as NAPOLEON tends not to finish his races off strongly. He had chosen to sit behind BATIK (*D B Geerthsen), however, this horse tired badly at the 500m, whereupon he switched in to try obtain cover behind runners on his inside. These tactics allowed this gelding to finish his race off strongly. Jockey P Strydom further added that, in his opinion, similar tactics over slightly shorter may suit NAPOLEON best. Trainer A P Peter confirmed these instructions.
d)	SAGE KING (K Matsunyane), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. 
	Assistant Trainer W Masawi, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, was advised (LK). 	 	

JOCKEY CHANGES:
a)	DEVILISH DANCER was ridden by Jockey C Habib, who weighed out at  55,4kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight (declared 25 May 2023 at 07H53).		
b)	CARNELO was ridden by Jockey J R Syster (declared 25 May 2023 at 14H58).	
c)	BARMAID: Jockey S Khumalo weighed out at 55,6kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight.
