Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GREEN BUBBLES (C Habib) and MOCHA MACAROON (R Danielson) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) A race review was called into the start of this Race where it was established that SHE'S A KLAWER (S Khumalo), in stall gate 5, had jumped riderless. The Stipendiary Board was of the opinion that the Handler allocated to this filly had not impeded her, that the starting stalls were released on time and therefore declared SHE'S A KLAWER to be a runner. In arriving at this decision, the Stewards also considered if there was any valid reason as to why Jockey Khumalo was not mounted as he appeared to be under Starter's orders. In the prima facie evidence which was considered, there was no compelling reason for Jockey Khumalo not being prepared for the start and having his feet in the irons as is standard and accepted practice. Following both the Starters' and Jockey S Khumalo being interviewed and having their evidence placed on record, the Board has adjourned to give this matter further consideration. b) SECRET RECIPE (P Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (MduP). When questioned regarding the improved performance of SECRET RECIPE, Trainer A Azzie explained to the Board that, in his opinion, the increase in trip and the removal of the blinkers had accounted for this filly's improved performance. Trainer A Azzie has undertaken, where possible, to race this filly over similar distances and similarly equipped in future. JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) JJ'S EAGLE raced with a pressure halter (declared 14 September 2023 at 10H30) and cheek pieces (declared 19 September 2023 at 16H27). b) GREEN BUBBLES raced without blinkers (declared 15 September 2023 at 15H56). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) GREEN BUBBLES coughing post race. b) SHE'S A KLAWER abrasion on the right shoulder. SCRATCHED: a) LIFE LESSON insufficient recovery time (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
