Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PIROSHKA (J Solomons) and RIO QUERARI (G van Niekerk) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 300m PIROSHKA (J Solomons), which was showing a tendency to hang out, was brushed inwards and had to be steadied when tightened for galloping room on the inside of RIO QUERARI (G van Niekerk), which was racing tight on the inside of MR COBBS (A Andrews), which was carried in by FIREALLEY (M Winnaar). Thereafter, at the 250m, MR COBBS (A Andrews) and RIO QUERARI (G van Niekerk) were severely tightened for galloping room and made contact when carried inwards by FIRE ALLEY (M Winnaar) which continued to shift in. The Stewards have adjourned to give this matter further consideration. b) Leaving the 50m FIRE ALLEY (M Winnaar), which then commenced to roll outwards, had to be checked away from the heels of MUFASA (K Matsunyane), which shifted in. As a consequence, Jockey M Winnaar was unable to ride FIREALLEY to the finish. c) PIROSHKA (J Solomons) was steadied away from the heels of FIREALLY (M Winnaar) at the finish. d) MUFASA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford was advised. (SC) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) M Winnaar (FIREALLEY) rode +0.5kg (57.8kgs) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MR COBBS - abnormal respiratory noise SCRATCHED: a) SPEED MACHINE - swollen hind legs.
