Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MEU CAPITANO (A Arries) was reluctant to load and jumped awkwardly outwards, losing two lengths. b) BLACKBERRY MALT (R Khathi) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. c) INNAMORARE (C Orffer) jumped slow, losing two lengths. d) MONUMENTAL (A Mgudlwa) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, GIMMELIGHTNING cast its left front shoe on the way to the start, which the Farrier was unable to replace as this gelding proved fractious. The Stewards, in consultation with Trainer SJ Snaith, instructed the Farrier to remove the right front shoe and GIMMELIGHTNING raced unshod in front, causing a delay. b) Thereafter, during the loading process, the bridle on MEU CAPITANO broke, which had to be replaced, causing a further delay. c) MEU CAPITANO (A Arries) pulled hard in the early stages and refused to settle. d) VELDSKOEN (AUS) (L Mxothwa) had to be steadied off the heels of GIMMELIGHTNING (G van Niekerk) at the finish. e) The Stewards have adjourned to review Jockey G van Niekerk's (GIMMELIGHTNING) riding in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine GIMMELIGHTNING. f) In view of the report from the Starter regarding MEU CAPITANO (A Arries) Trainer ELP Steyn will be advised to have this colt re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. g) CAFE CULTURE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L Woodruff was advised.
