Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) IGUGULETHU (A Domeyer) stood awkwardly in the stalls, was taken out and reloaded. b) PORTCULLIS (M Mjoka) and JACK IN THE GREEN (A Andrews) jumped slow, losing one length. c) JUAN LES PINS (G Wright) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) RAINBOW COLOURS (S Veale) was hanging out on the turn and raced wide on the latter part of the turn and into the straight. b) Approaching the 400m, FRENCH TRIP (C Orffer) and TAKE A MULLIGAN (C Bantam) brushed when FRENCH TRIP (C Orffer), which was attempting to improve on the outside of TSUNAMI WARNING (M Winnaar), shifted out when awkwardly placed on the outside of the heels of TSUNAMI WARNING (M Winnaar), which shifted out. As a consequence, both FRENCH TRIP (C Orffer) and TAKE A MULLIGAN (C Bantam) then made heavy contact, became unbalanced and TAKE A MULLIGAN (C Bantam) had to be steadied for a number of strides. GOLDEN GREY (J Jacobs), which was racing on the outside running rail and behind TAKE A MULLIGAN (C Bantam) was held up and had to be checked, losing momentum. The Stewards have adjourned to review this incident. c) In the concluding stages Jockey M Winnaar was unable to ride TSUNAMI WARNING to the finish when awkwardly placed on the inside of the heels of BATON ROUGE (K Steyn), which rolled out. d) Jockey D Ashby reported that OTIS THE BRAVE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding IGUGULETHU (A Domeyer), Trainer C Bass-Robinson will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. f) Jockey C Bantam was charged with a contravention of Rule 66.4 (read with Guideline 1 on overweight) in that he, as the rider of TAKE A MULLIGAN, weighed back in at 56.1kgs, 1.1kg in excess of the weight at which he was declared out (55kgs). g) BATON ROUGE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PAW Botha was advised.
