Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) As a result of the late scratching of ILHA DA MAURICIA (K Steyn), the start was delayed. b) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) On arriving at the start Jockey K Steyn expressed concern with ILHA DA MAURICIA's action while proceeding to the start. This filly was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. However, Jockey K Steyn was not comfortable to fulfil his riding engagement and opted not to ride ILHA DA MAURICIA. As no other rider was available, the Stewards withdrew ILHA DA MAURICIA. Jockey K Steyn was interviewed by the Stewards with regards to this incident. In view of this report and considering ILHA DA MAURICIA'S reported veterinary history, Trainer L Gila will be advised that a veterinary certificate is required prior to this filly being accepted to race in terms of Rule 49.7. b) WORLD OF PLEASURE (B Fayd'Herbe) was steadied when brushed by GOLD INDEX (D Ashby) at the finish. c) In view of the performance of MORNING CHESS (M Winnaar) and PHANTOMOFTHEFOREST (M Mjoka), which proved difficult to settle in the early stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. d) In view of the performance of LIKETHECLAPPERS (JP van der Merwe), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) KEBONALESEDI, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised.
