Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) The tongue-tie on SIBERIAN STEEL (R Fourie) was re-fitted at the start. b) STORM PLAYER (S Khathi) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 300m HOLOCENE (K Minnie) had to be steadied away from the heels of STORM PLAYER (S Khathi), which rolled outwards. Thereafter, STORM PLAYER (S Khathi) continued to roll outwards, which resulted in EUROPEAN SUMMER (*B Plaatjies) becoming tightened for galloping room and having to be steadied and switched outward away from the heels of PRINCESS DEB'S (R Khathi), which showed a tendency to hang inwards and shifted in marginally. Trainer E Kaknis called for a race review which was followed by him lodging an objection on behalf of the 5th placed horse EUROPEAN SUMMER (*B Plaatjies) against the 2nd placed horse PRINCESS DEB'S (R Khathi) on the grounds of interference between the 300m and 200m. The Objection Board, after giving due regard to the evidence put forward, reviewing the patrol films and giving consideration of the margin of 0,65 of a length between the two horses concerned, could not be satisfied that EUROPEAN SUMMER (*B Plaatjies) would have finished ahead of PRINCESS DEB'S (R Khathi) had this incident not occurred and therefore overruled the Objection. The deposit was refunded. Jockey S Khathi appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. b) FOREST SPY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
