Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) ZULU WAR CRY (*K Brewer) over-raced in the early stages. b) FLOWER SEASON (A Arries) was brushed inwards on a number of occasions by WINTER'S DESTINY (K de Melo) which was hanging in from the 300m, proving difficult to assist. c) At the 200m, MAID IN FRANCE (*G Pieterse) was bumped out by SWISS BANK (S Brown) which shifted out away from the crop and was straightened. Immediately thereafter, MAID IN FRANCE (*G Pieterse) had to be steadied momentarily when brushed in by LEOPARD LADY (N Patel). d) SWISS BANK (S Brown) took an awkward stride shortly before the finish-line. e) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with CAPRICCIO in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse FLOWER SEASON more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey A Arries struck the horse FLOWER SEASON, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. g) FLOWER SEASON (A Arries), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Y Govender advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) ZULU WAR CRY was ridden by Apprentice K Brewer (claiming 2.5kg) (Stipes permission granted). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) CAPRICCIO : Nothing obvious detected. b) ZULU WAR CRY : Brush wound right hind. c) ROYAL KITTY : Returned post-race having cast the right hind shoe. SCRATCHINGS : a) PURPLE SHADOW : Lame right front. Withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon at 14h10. Rule 53.5 applies.
