Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED 

A)	SPARKLING FLAME and UNDER MY HAT were slow into stride.
B)	FLAMING LASS declared a non-runner (impeded by Handler).

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED

A)	The Stewards called a race review into the start pertaining to FLAMING LASS (J P v'd Merwe) in stall gate 6. It was established that the Handler assigned to the mare had been tardy in releasing its hood which had led to the mare losing ground to the field. Jockey J P v'd Merwe when interviewed stated that he was instructed to race this mare from a forward position. In considering the matter, the Stewards determined that FLAMING LASS had been impeded by the action of the Handler and declared FLAMING LASS to be a non-runner in terms of Rule 61.5.10.2. The Starter and the Handler were interviewed regarding this incident.
B)	Approaching the 150m, SUBTERFUGE (K Minnie) which commenced to weaken, was carried out by PRINCESS OF WINTER (W Kennedy) which shifted out away from the crop.
C)	Jockey K Minnie reported that SUBTERFUGE made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running.  The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
D)	The winner PRINCESS OF WINTER was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer G D Smith advised (LM).
