MIDNIGHT GEM (D SCHWARZ) PROVED RELUCTANT PROCEEDING TO THE START AND HAD TO BE LED BY A HANDLER. THIS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE.

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a)	ENSUING (C Maujean) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls.
b)	SUTHERLAND (P Mxoli) was slow into stride.	
       
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a)	MIDNIGHT GEM (D Schwarz) proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a Handler. When taking this mare's history of intractability into consideration, she has been suspended in terms of Rule 93.2.4, until such time as she proves tractable cantering to the start on a Raceday. 
Trainer P P Labuschagne to be advised.  
b)	At approximately the 400m, EDWARD RYE (ARG) (C Zackey) was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed between the inside running rail and CHIEFTAIN (G Lerena), which rolled in and was corrected.
c)	At approximately the 200, CHIEFTAIN (G Lerena) was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed on the inside of FASTNET FILLY (IRE) (K Matsunyane), which hung in from the 300m. 
d)	Jockey L Nhlapo reported that he felt something amiss with AFTER THE RAIN in running. 
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this horse. 	
e)	NIGHT BOMBER (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
